During our 4-day family staycation, we found ourselves walking through this commercial strip almost every single day. Because our resort, Altabriza, was located just a short walk away in Balabag, D’Mall became our ultimate crossroads.

It's a lively and bustling area where you can find everything from souvenirs and local crafts to delicious dining options and exciting nightlife. If you’re picturing a traditional, enclosed concrete shopping center with blasting air conditioning, let me stop you right there. D’Mall is an entirely different beast. Here is my personal take on what it’s like, how to navigate it, and whether it lives up to the hype.

The Vibe: Open-Air Island Hustle

The layout is a grid of sandy, paved pathways lined with palm trees, cozy boutiques, market stalls, and a massive array of restaurants. It perfectly bridges the gap between modern commercial convenience and laid-back island culture.

During the day, it’s a relaxed spot to grab an iced coffee, exchange currency, or look for beachwear. But once the sun goes down, the entire grid lights up, the music starts pumping, and it transforms into the most crowded, high-energy hub on the island.

The Food: A Global Culinary Melting Pot

Honestly, the biggest reason to visit D’Mall is the food. The sheer variety packed into this small grid is incredible. No matter what your family is craving, you will find it here.

D'Mall boasts a wide variety of dining options to satisfy every palate:

Seafood: Try fresh seafood dishes at beachfront restaurants like Sea Breeze or Red Coconut.
Filipino Cuisine: Enjoy traditional Filipino dishes like adobo, sinigang, and lechon.
International Flavors: Savor international cuisine from Italian pasta to Japanese sushi.

During our trip, we spent an entire afternoon just grazing through the different snack stalls—sampling local street bites, fruit shakes, and refreshing coolers while exploring the lanes. For dinner on our second night, we wandered into the heart of the grid and stumbled upon Ole Boracay, an island favorite specializing in Spanish and Mexican food. We treated ourselves to a massive feast of beef steak, pizza, and a rich Spanish paella.

Whether you want local comfort food (there is an Andok's and a Jollibee right at the main borders), authentic Greek food at Cyma, Italian at Aria, or just a fresh mango shake, D’Mall has it all covered.

Shopping & Souvenirs: From High-End to Bargain Stalls

If you need to stock up on beach essentials or grab gifts for family back home, D’Mall is the undisputed go-to.

The Main Entrance (Highway Side): This is anchored by Budget Mart, the island's most famous grocery landmark. It is the golden rule of Boracay to stop here and stock up on large water bottles, snacks, and sunblock before heading to your hotel. There are also plenty of ATMs, banks, and pharmacies (like Watsons) in this immediate area.

The Alleyways: As you walk further inward, the shops transition into boutique clothing stores selling trendy resort wear, high-quality swimwear, and local artisanal crafts.

D’Mall Palengke: Tucked slightly to the side near the highway, you’ll find the wet market area. It’s a great place to buy handcrafted souvenirs, keychains, and custom t-shirts.

A Quick Tip on Bargaining: While the upscale boutiques have fixed prices, you can absolutely negotiate and haggle with the vendors in the smaller wooden market stalls and the palengke area. Don't be afraid to politely ask for a discount, especially if you're buying items in bulk!

Nightlife and Entertainment

As the sun sets, D'Mall comes alive with exciting nightlife options:

Bars and Clubs: Enjoy cocktails and dance the night away at bars and clubs like Epic and Cocomangas.
Live Music: Listen to live bands and musicians performing at various venues.
Fire Dancing Shows: Witness thrilling fire dancing performances on the beachfront.

How to Get to D'Mall

D’Mall is essentially a vibrant, open-air pedestrian street market that cuts clean through the middle of Station 2, directly connecting the Main Boracay Highway to the powdery shores of White Beach.

By Foot: If you're staying in Station 2 like what we did, D'Mall is likely within walking distance from your accommodation.

By Tricycle: If you're staying further away, you can take a tricycle to D'Mall from any part of the island.

Navigating D'Mall

D'Mall is a compact area, making it easy to explore on foot. It is divided into different sections, and you'll find various shops, restaurants, and attractions throughout. The main sections include:

Main Road Area: Lined with shops, cafes, and restaurants, this area is the central hub of D'Mall.
Beachfront Area: Overlooks White Beach and is home to beachfront restaurants and bars with stunning sunset views.

Quick Tips for Travelers

Cash is King: While major restaurants and boutiques accept credit cards and GCash, many smaller souvenir stalls and snack vendors only take cash.

Watch the Weather: Because it's a completely open-air street grid, heavy tropical downpours can cause temporary puddles along the pathways. If it looks like rain, pack an umbrella or slip into your flip-flops.

Navigational Anchor: If you ever get lost or need to meet up with an e-trike driver, just tell them to drop you off at "Budget Mart D'Mall" on the main road.

The Verdict: Is It a Must-Visit?

100% Yes. You literally cannot experience Boracay without walking through D’Mall.

Is it touristy? Absolutely. Can it get incredibly crowded during peak dinner hours? Definitely. But its strategic location makes it the ultimate convenience hub. It gives you a safe, lively, and highly navigable space to transition from a beach stroll to a world-class dinner or a quick grocery run.
