ABOUT DITUMABO MOTHER FALLS

Towering at around 140 feet and with the cold water from the highland of Sierra Madre Mountain Range, Ditumabo Falls is an imposing icon of the province. The freely cascading water drops into a wide rocky basin forming a natural pool ideal for swimming.

It is called the Mother Falls because (why not?) it is the largest waterfalls in the province of Aurora.

DAY TOUR FEES

Entrance Fee: Php 30.00 per head
Tour Guide (required to have one): Php 200.00 per group/batch

In our case, we are a group of 8 people, we hired 1 tour guide for our tour.

WHAT TO PACK FOR MOTHER FALLS

Here are some things you might consider bringing with you for your day tour / adventure:

HIKING TO MOTHER FALLS

Before even thinking on going here, please make sure to ready your self to an hour trek that involves river crossings (at least 4 rivers with steep bamboo-made bridges).

The trail starts at the jump-off where you can see some stores of souvenirs and food and where you can register and hire your guide to the waterfalls.

It was a cloudy afternoon when we arrived and started walking the trail with our guide. The trail starts with an easy path along the river and it gets harder in between.

In some part of the trail, we needed to cross the river with huge boulders and rocks. Thankfully, there are bamboo-made bridges for those parts where the river gets deeper and wider.

More to cross!

Almost there.. :D

One of my favorite part of the trekking is when it's all clear path where we follow these big pipes ahead to the falls.

Along our way to the falls, you will notice this "mini" waterfalls on the left side of the trail which is actually called, "Baby Falls" as per our guide.

It was rainy season when we traveled to Baler, the cascading waters from the falls was very strong and huge even from afar. The water from the basin is mostly deep and you can only stand from the side.

The trail is generally rough and rocky (and quite slippery specially after the rain). But once you reach the waterfalls and its basin, reward yourself and dip in to (or dive in) its cold waters!

FUN FACT: located from the upper cascade, behind the Mother Falls, is (what do you think?) the mightier, "Father Falls". Yup, there's a mightier (if the the biggest) falls hiding behind this one in Ditumabo and it wasn't open yet to the public (or tourists) when we visited.

There are daily bus trips from Cubao in Quezon City that en route to Baler. Genesis Transport, Inc. is the only bus company that provides direct trips to Baler, Aurora from Cubao.
  • The first trip is at 2:00 AM with subsequent trips at one hour intervals, last trip leaves Cubao at 7:30 AM.
  • From Baler to Pasay, the first bus leaves at 4:30 AM, also with subsequent trips every hour.
  • The last trip is at 3:00 PM. Travel time is approximately 7 hours.

From Baler (town proper), there are tricycles you can hire for a day tour (Php 1,000) that includes a visit to Ditumabo Mother Falls. Tour fee starts at  Read my full Baler Travel Guide for details.

Via Private Car

If you are bringing your own vehicle, there are two options you have:
  • If you are coming from Nueva Ecija (or Manila), you may take the Nueva Ecija - Aurora Rd. which is the harder way to go to Baler (more zigzags and rough narrow ways) but the nearest for San Luis where Ditumabo Mother Falls is located.
  • If you are coming from Baler, you take the Pantabangan - Baler Rd. from the town proper then turn left to Nueva Ecija - Aurora Rd. for you to reach the jump-off point.

For those who are bringing own vehicle, you may use Waze or Google Maps for directions. If you don’t have a private vehicle, you can rent a car or van here.

WHERE TO STAY IN BALER

Although the Mother Falls is located in San Luis, most accommodation (and the best options) in Aurora are found in Baler. The town is full of transients and resorts where you can choose from. Here are some of my recommendation:
