Travelers heading between Baguio City and Metro Manila will need to adjust their travel budgets following a newly implemented provisional fare increase for provincial buses.

Effective March 14, 2026, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has authorized a rate hike across various bus classifications to address rising operational costs. The order, officially signed on March 13, introduces a ₱0.35 per kilometer increase for air-conditioned provincial units.

New Rates for Baguio–Manila Routes

Under the updated matrix, the standard rate for regular air-conditioned provincial buses now stands at ₱2.45 per kilometer. For the approximately 300 km trip between Baguio and Cubao, the base fare has shifted to roughly ₱735, with most operators rounding the final price to ₱740.

Major carriers, including Victory Liner, have updated their ticketing systems to reflect these changes. Commuters can expect the following estimated rates for the Baguio–Cubao route:

  • Via Gerona, Tarlac: ₱740

  • Via TPLEX Urdaneta: ₱750

  • Deluxe (via TPLEX Pozorrubio): ₱871

  • First Class Express (Non-stop): ₱1,136

  • Royal Class Express (Non-stop): ₱1,646

Fares for trips to Pasay are slightly higher, ranging from ₱756 for standard trips to ₱1,682 for Royal Class services.

Breakdown of Fare Adjustments

The LTFRB’s decision impacts various bus tiers with specific incremental increases:

  • (Non-AC) +₱1.00 base fare; +₱0.30 per succeeding km

  • Regular Air-Con / Super Deluxe / Deluxe +₱0.35 per kilometer

  • Luxury Buses +₱0.45 per kilometer

Discounts and Reminders

Despite the hike, the mandatory 20% discount remains in effect for students, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities (PWDs). For a standard ₱740 trip to Cubao, discounted passengers will pay approximately ₱588.

The LTFRB reminds the public that fares may vary slightly depending on the specific route taken (such as use of the TPLEX) and the level of onboard amenities. Passengers are encouraged to check with their respective bus terminals for the most accurate and up-to-date pricing before heading out.

Bus Fare Hike: Baguio–Cubao Now ₱700+ One-Way

Typhoon Tino (international name: Kalmaegi) has prompted widespread class suspensions across multiple regions of the Visayas and Caraga, as local government units take preemptive action to ensure public safety. Face-to-face classes, spanning all levels in both public and private schools, are cancelled for Tuesday, November 4, 2025, in numerous provinces, with many schools directed to shift to alternative learning modalities.

Affected Regions and Learning Shifts

The class cancellations are most concentrated in Western Visayas (Region VI), Central Visayas (Region VII), Eastern Visayas (Region VIII), and parts of the Caraga Region (Region XIII), which are directly in the projected path of Typhoon Tino. The storm, which is expected to make landfall over the vicinity of Eastern Visayas or Caraga late Monday or early Tuesday, is forecast to bring destructive winds, torrential rain, and the threat of life-threatening storm surges.

Key Areas with Class Suspensions on November 4:

Region VI (Western Visayas):

  • Aklan: All levels in Malay (until Nov. 5), New Washington, Balete, Ibajay, Libertad (no face-to-face), and Kalibo (shift to alternative learning).

  • Antique: Almost all municipalities have suspended face-to-face classes, including Anini-y, Bugasong, Patnongon, and San Jose de Buenavista.

  • Capiz: Roxas City, Dumarao, Ivisan, and Jamindan, with a shift to alternative learning modes.

  • Iloilo: Balasan, Batad, Concepcion, Estancia, and Iloilo City (until Nov. 5 for face-to-face).

  • Negros Occidental: Bacolod City, Bago City, Sagay City, La Carlota City, and Victorias City are among the numerous areas suspending face-to-face classes.

Region VII (Central Visayas):

  • Bohol (all levels).

  • Cebu: Cebu City (until Nov. 5), Lapu-Lapu City (until Nov. 5 for face-to-face), and multiple towns like Carcar City, Daanbantayan, Liloan, and Naga City.

Region VIII (Eastern Visayas):

  • Biliran: All levels in Culaba, Cabucgayan, and Naval.

  • Eastern Samar (all levels, until Nov. 4).

  • Leyte: Tacloban City and other towns like Abuyog and Burauen (until Nov. 4).

  • Northern Samar and Samar (all levels, until Nov. 4).

Region XIII (Caraga):

  • Dinagat Islands (all levels).

Shift to Alternative Learning Modalities

In a major development from previous storm responses, many local orders and university directives explicitly mandate a swift transition to Alternative Delivery Modes (ADM) to prevent an absolute halt in education.

Aklan State University and West Visayas State University (WVSU) have cancelled face-to-face classes, with WVSU shifting to mediated modalities (synchronous or asynchronous), including online learning for its College of Medicine and other health programs.

Schools in Kalibo, Patnongon, and San Jose de Buenavista are among those directed to implement modular distance learning, online learning, or blended learning methods.

The widespread shift reflects the Department of Education's push for learning continuity during severe weather events, ensuring students can remain safe at home without completely missing scheduled lessons.

As Typhoon Tino continues its approach and potential intensification, authorities are reminding the public to monitor official weather advisories from PAGASA. Residents in low-lying and coastal areas, particularly those under higher storm signal warnings, are urged to heed preemptive evacuation orders and remain in safe shelters.

Class Suspensions for Tuesday, November 4, 2025

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has announced a significant shift in mall operating hours and several key traffic control measures aimed at easing the expected surge in holiday congestion across the National Capital Region.

The changes, which affect mall hours, deliveries, sales, roadwork, and bus schedules, are set to take effect starting November 17 and will run until December 25 of this year.

Later Mall Hours on Weekdays

In an agreement reached with mall operators, MMDA Chairperson Romando Artes stated in a press conference that mall operating hours will now be from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on weekdays.

Artes clarified that this new schedule will apply Monday through Friday, with weekends and holidays exempted from the later opening time.

To further manage traffic flow, the MMDA also announced two crucial restrictions on mall activities:

  • Mall-wide sales will be strictly restricted to weekends.

  • Mall deliveries will be limited to the late-night hours, specifically between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m.

Suspension of Road Excavation

The MMDA is also taking steps to clear the roads of construction-related disruptions.

Artes confirmed that all road excavation activities that may cause traffic in Metro Manila will be suspended during the holiday period, from November 17 to December 25.

He added that contractors would be allowed to resume and even work 24 hours a day starting December 26 onwards, as monitoring and experience show that traffic flow significantly improves after the main holiday rush.

Adjustments to EDSA Bus Schedule

To accommodate commuters traveling to and from other provinces, the MMDA is also adjusting the EDSA bus schedule.

Starting December 20, provincial buses will be allowed to operate nightly between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. Furthermore, buses will be permitted to run 24 hours a day from December 24 to January 2 to support travelers during the peak holiday season.

These measures come as the MMDA prepares for the annual increase in vehicles on Metro Manila roads. According to Artes, the metro typically handles about 3.6 million vehicles daily, a number that traditionally jumps by 10% to 20% during the holidays. The coordinated adjustments are intended to mitigate the heavier traffic that the increased volume will inevitably bring.

Metro Manila Malls to Operate on Later Hours

Thousands of visitors, residents, and workers at Camp John Hay can now enjoy a free, eco-friendly ride with the launch of the new John Hay Loop.

This six-month pilot shuttle service uses electric vehicles (EVs) and is a joint initiative of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA), its subsidiary John Hay Management Corporation (JHMC), and private partners DeviceDesign Co. Ltd., LexSwitch, and the Cordillera Basic Sector Transport Cooperative.

The project aims to improve mobility, reduce traffic congestion, and promote sustainable transportation in one of Baguio's most popular destinations. The service is set to benefit the nearly four thousand people who live and work in the area, as well as the increasing number of eco-conscious tourists visiting the city.

John Hay Loop Route and Stops

Three EV units are now operating, each capable of accommodating 22 seated and nine standing passengers. They serve eight designated stations throughout Camp John Hay, including:

  • Main Gate Station – John Hay Trade and Cultural Center

  • Filling Station A – near Le Monet Hotel

  • Scout Hill Station A – near Camp John Hay Grounds

  • Mile Hi Station A – from Forest Lodge

  • Gate 4 Station – to South Drive and Outlook Drive

  • Sheridan Station – near John Hay Golf

  • Mile Hi Station B – going to Forest Lodge

  • Filling Station B – going to Main Gate

Each unit is powered by a 70-kilowatt-hour (kWh) lithium-ion battery with fast-charging capability, allowing it to fully recharge in just 90 minutes. A 7kWh onboard slow charger is also available as a backup.

According to BCDA President and CEO Engr. Joshua M. Bingcang, “The John Hay Loop moves us toward a cleaner, faster, and more connected Baguio. Through this collaboration with the private sector and the international community, we are building a sustainable transport model that will benefit residents, workers, and tourists for years to come.”

The partnership was formalized in June 2025 when BCDA and JHMC signed a memorandum of understanding with DeviceDesign, LexSwitch, and the Cordillera Basic Sector Transport Cooperative. LexBuild Group and LexSWITCH EcoMobility Inc. provide the EV units and charging stations, while DeviceDesign supplies the station signages and tracking technology.

DeviceDesign and the Cordillera Basic Sector Transport Cooperative will evaluate the pilot service by monitoring passenger experience, ridership levels, and overall system operations. They will then provide recommendations for the long-term implementation of the John Hay Loop.

This initiative underscores BCDA’s commitment to making destinations more accessible while protecting the environment. By integrating clean transportation solutions in Camp John Hay, BCDA aims to promote a greener future for Baguio and set a national benchmark for sustainable mobility in tourism areas. The John Hay Loop aligns with the BCDA’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, specifically Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, and Goal 13: Climate Action.

JOHN HAY LOOP: Catch a Free Shuttle Ride in Baguio

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) officially launched the expansion of the Siargao Airport passenger terminal building with a ceremonial groundbreaking led by DOTr Secretary Vince B. Dizon on Friday in Sayak, Del Carmen.

The P95.2-million infrastructure project marks a major upgrade for Siargao’s main gateway, aiming to significantly boost capacity, improve traveler comfort, and support the island’s growing tourism industry.

Once completed, the expanded terminal will double in size—from 716 to 1,531 square meters—and increase the number of check-in counters from 3 to 9. Passenger capacity will also rise dramatically, from 200 to 750 people at a time, easing congestion and long wait times that have plagued the current facility.

“Our local and foreign tourists deserve better,” said Sec. Dizon during the ceremony. “That’s why President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. ordered us to improve the travel experience here in Siargao—because this island is one of our most important tourism destinations.”

Also present was Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco, who hailed the expansion as a “gateway to greater prosperity.” She emphasized that the project is not just about upgrading an airport but about delivering on a national vision of tourism-led growth and development.

“As Siargao’s popularity rises, it’s crucial that we build the infrastructure to match demand,” Frasco said. “This expansion is a collaborative effort between the public and private sectors to make travel more efficient and enjoyable, while also generating jobs and economic activity for the community.”

Siargao Airport, also known as Sayak Airport, currently handles 18 flights daily. However, increasing tourist arrivals have placed pressure on its facilities. The expansion project directly responds to this demand, aligning with broader goals to modernize the country’s air transport network.

The upgraded terminal is expected to provide not just more space, but a more seamless and comfortable travel experience—strengthening Siargao’s status as a world-class destination.

Officials from both the DOTr and DOT affirmed that the project would be completed efficiently, with construction beginning immediately following the groundbreaking ceremony.

For travelers and locals alike, the upgraded Siargao Airport promises to be a symbol of progress—where tourism, infrastructure, and community development go hand in hand.

Siargao Airport Expansion Breaks Ground, Set to Triple Passenger Capacity

Filipino cryptocurrency traders are facing a significant disruption as major internet service providers (ISPs) in the Philippines have begun blocking access to several prominent international crypto exchange platforms. This decisive action follows a series of warnings from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) regarding the unregistered operation of these platforms within the country.

Reports have surfaced throughout the day confirming that users of ISPs like PLDT and Smart are now unable to access the websites and applications of a growing list of international cryptocurrency exchanges.

This move comes after the SEC issued an Investor Alert against ten specific platforms, urging the public to refrain from investing or trading with them due to their lack of necessary licenses under the Philippines' new Crypto Asset Service Provider (CASP) Rules, which took effect on July 5, 2025.

The list of crypto trading websites reportedly no longer accessible includes:

  • Binance
  • OKX
  • Bybit
  • MEXC
  • KuCoin
  • Bitget
  • Phemex
  • CoinEx
  • BitMart
  • Poloniex
  • Kraken

The SEC had previously warned that it may request the blocking of access to these websites and applications as part of its efforts to protect Filipino investors. The regulator emphasized the risks associated with using unregistered platforms, including the potential for fraud, loss of funds, and lack of legal recourse for investors.

This crackdown represents a significant escalation in the Philippine government's regulatory efforts within the cryptocurrency space. The SEC has been actively working to ensure that all entities facilitating crypto transactions within the country are properly registered and compliant with local laws. The earlier successful geo-blocking of Binance served as a clear indication of the regulator's intent to enforce these rules.

While access to these major international platforms is now restricted, the SEC has highlighted several registered local exchanges that Filipinos can utilize for their cryptocurrency trading activities. These compliant platforms include:

  • PDAX: Accessible via both web and mobile applications.

  • CoinsPH: Recognized as the largest Philippine-based cryptocurrency exchange.

  • GCrypto: Integrated within the GCash application and powered by PDAX on its back-end.

  • MayaCrypto: Available on the Maya platform, although currently without send and receive functionalities.

The blocking of these international exchanges serves as a stark reminder for cryptocurrency investors in the Philippines to exercise caution and prioritize trading on platforms that have secured the necessary licenses from the local regulatory authorities.

The SEC continues to urge the public to be vigilant and to only engage with entities that operate within the legal framework to ensure investor protection. The "crackdown has begun," signaling a new era of stricter regulation within the Philippine cryptocurrency market.

The Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) has introduced a new, reduced overnight parking rate for verified passengers and other legitimate airport users, effective Friday, August 1.

The move, announced by the New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC) in a Facebook post, aims to make parking more accessible and to ensure that parking facilities are efficiently managed and available for those who genuinely use the airport.

Under the new system, verified passengers who park their vehicles at any of the NAIA terminals (Terminal 1, 2, or 3) will be able to avail of a 50% discount on the standard overnight rate.

To qualify for the reduced rate, passengers must keep their parking ticket and boarding pass from their trip. Upon their return, they need to present both documents at the validation counter. Once verified, they will be charged a discounted rate of ₱600 for overnight parking.

While this new rate is still higher than the original ₱300 overnight rate, it is a significant reduction from the ₱1,200 rate that the NNIC implemented last October.

The NNIC stated that the new system will help to keep parking slots available and convenient for NAIA's intended users.

Bitcoin continued its historic ascent today, surging past $117,000 and even touching $118,000 early on Friday, July 11, setting a fresh all-time high.

This latest milestone extends a remarkable rally that has seen the world's largest cryptocurrency consistently break records throughout the week, previously surpassing the $111,000 and $113,000 marks.

The unprecedented surge is attributed to a confluence of factors fueling strong bullish sentiment in the crypto market. A primary driver appears to be the robust institutional demand, particularly the significant inflows of capital into spot Bitcoin Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs) in major global markets.

These investment vehicles have made it easier for traditional financial institutions and investors to gain exposure to Bitcoin, legitimizing it further as an asset class.

Loading...

Adding to the positive sentiment are recent favorable policy signals, notably a perceived pro-crypto stance from the current US administration. Regulatory developments, such as ongoing discussions and legislative efforts like the GENIUS Act concerning stablecoins, are contributing to increased investor confidence and a more predictable regulatory environment for digital assets.

Bitcoin's rally also appears to be correlated with broader market trends, including the strong performance of tech stocks – exemplified by companies like Nvidia reaching a staggering $4 trillion valuation. This indicates a rising risk appetite among investors, who are increasingly comfortable allocating capital to growth-oriented and innovative assets.

Furthermore, Bitcoin's inherent fixed supply cap positions it as a potential hedge against inflation amidst ongoing global economic uncertainties. Its scarcity, combined with growing demand, continues to underpin its long-term value proposition.

As Bitcoin continues its record-breaking run, analysts are closely watching market dynamics to see if this momentum will push the cryptocurrency even higher in the coming weeks.

Bitcoin Hit All Time High at $118,000

Thousands of Iranians are fleeing Tehran today, jamming roads leading north out of the capital, as Israeli warplanes continue to bomb the city, hitting missile production sites and prompting mass civilian evacuations. The humanitarian crisis is deepening as the specter of direct U.S. military intervention looms, with President Donald Trump reportedly weighing options that include joining Israel in attacking Iranian nuclear facilities.

Overnight, 50 Israeli jets struck approximately 20 targets across Tehran, including facilities involved in producing raw materials, components, and manufacturing systems for missiles, an Israeli military official stated. Residents in a southwestern area of Tehran were specifically instructed by Israel to evacuate their homes ahead of anticipated airstrikes.

"We left Tehran this morning. My children were frightened, and we're going to stay at my brother's house near Karaj," Alireza, a 37-year-old businessman, told Reuters by phone, capturing the widespread fear. Arezou, 31, who found refuge in the nearby resort town of Lavasan, lamented, "My friend's house in Tehran was attacked and her brother was injured. They are civilians. Why are we paying the price for the regime's decision to pursue a nuclear program?"

Escalating Rhetoric and US Options

Iran has retaliated with a fresh volley of missiles aimed at Israel and issued a stern new warning to the United States: any direct participation in the war by Washington would be met with a forceful response. Iran's ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva, Ali Bahreini, stated, "We will not show any reluctance in defending our people, security and land – we will respond seriously and strongly, without restraint." Bahreini also asserted that Iran already views the U.S. as "complicit in what Israel is doing."

The crisis has been further fueled by a flurry of social media posts from President Trump, who on Tuesday issued a demand for Iran's "UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER!" and even mused about killing Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, stating, "We are not going to take him out (kill!), at least not for now...Our patience is wearing thin."

A source familiar with internal White House discussions confirmed that Trump and his team are indeed considering direct involvement, including joining Israel in strikes against Iran's nuclear sites. The U.S. is already deploying more fighter aircraft to the Middle East and extending the deployment of other warplanes, while intelligence reports suggest Iran has begun moving some ballistic missile launchers.

Civilian Casualties and Strategic Blows

Inside Iran, the intensity of the attacks, the largest since the 1980s war with Iraq, has reportedly wiped out an echelon of senior leadership. Iranian officials have reported at least 224 deaths, predominantly civilians, though this toll has not been updated for days. To prevent panic and manage information, Iranian authorities have banned public filming and placed limits on fuel purchases. The inner circle of Supreme Leader Khamenei has reportedly been significantly narrowed, raising concerns about potential strategic miscalculations.

In Israel, Iran's retaliatory strikes mark a critical shift, as a significant number of missiles from Iran have penetrated air defenses for the first time in decades, killing civilians. Since Friday, Iran has launched around 400 missiles at Israel, with approximately 40 piercing through air defenses and resulting in 24 civilian deaths, according to Israeli authorities. Explosions were heard over Tel Aviv again on Wednesday morning as two barrages of Iranian missiles were launched.

Reports also emerged of clashes in the city of Rey, south of Tehran, between security forces and unidentified gunmen linked to Israel, suspected of planning "terrorist operations." Iranian news websites further claimed attacks on a university linked to Iran’s Revolutionary Guards in the country’s east, and the Khojir ballistic missile facility near Tehran.

The conflict has also spurred Iran to explore economic leverage, with a former Economy Minister suggesting that Iran should quickly start requiring permission for tankers transiting the Strait of Hormuz, the world's most vital oil shipping artery. This move, if implemented, could severely impact global oil markets.

As the conflict deepens, the international community watches nervously, grappling with the increasing civilian toll and the looming prospect of a regional conflagration.
