About Tiendesitas

Tiendesitas is a prime shopping and dining destination located in Frontera Verde, Pasig City. It showcases the best of Philippine products from locally-made furniture and handicrafts, antiques, to native food.

Tiendesitas

Tiendesitas ("a collection of little stores") is a shopping complex located along E. Rodriguez Jr. Avenue in, Ugong, Pasig. Traders and entrepreneurs from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao offer specialty merchandise in Tiendesitas.



DEVELOPMENT OF TIENDESITAS

The complex began operations on September 26, 2005 and was developed by Ortigas & Company Limited Partnership (OCLP). Constructed at a cost of P200 million, Tiendesitas is a part of Ortigas East (former Frontera Verde), an interim 18.5 hectare Ortigas Center development project, much like the Greenhills Shopping Center.



Tiendesitas Villages

Tiendesitas is a 30,000 square metres (320,000 sq ft) complex of wide-opened "villages" featuring stylized Filipino architecture. The complex is made up of twelve pavilions inspired by Maranao architecture, which in turn traces its roots back to the bahay kubo.

The roof of each pavilion is covered with chemically treated Cogon grass, and is equipped with sprinklers to avoid mishaps during fires. Duyans (hammocks) are scattered around the development to offer short breaks during shopping trips. The Filipiniana inspiration extends to the comfort rooms: old kalesa wheels were transformed into chandelier frames to light up these restrooms.

Inside Tiendesitas

More than 450 traders from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao specializing in merchandise from regions not usually found in mainstream retail outlets exhibit their wares in Tiendesitas' shopping pavilions. Haggling a la tiangge is a common negotiating tactic among local merchants.

Handicrafts Village

Philippine-made handicrafts (by members of Philippine Chamber of Handicrafts Industries) from home décor to fashion accessories are found at the Handicrafts Village. Benguet handicrafts are included in the limited edition merchandise to be found here.

Fashion Village

The Fashion Village showcases apparel and accessories from Philippine designers, notably Marikina. Fashions sold in the Fashion Village include fabric woven in various regions of Mindanao, shell earrings from Cebu, and necklaces from other provinces in the South.

Novelties Village

Personal care and toiletries sold in the Personal Care and Novelties Village include homegrown, homemade organic soaps, lotions and aromatherapy lines developed by local traders. While these products normally surface only during bazaars, the Personal Care and Novelties Village allows them a year-round place to be exhibited and marketed to the public.

Pet Village

Licensed pet dealers in the Pets Village showcase exotic animals, rare species of birds, primates, snakes and iguanas. Domestic pets such as Labradors, Siamese cats, parrots and parakeets are also available. Pet grooming and care services are also available in the Pets Village.

Garden Village

A variety of potted plants, orchids, fruit-bearing trees and ornamentals can be seen at the Garden Village.

Antiques Village

The Antiques Village hosts antique stores. The most expensive item in the store is an P800,000 – worth statue of Saint Augustine from Bohol. Other stalls sell carvings of the bulol, a granary god, with prices climbing to as high up as P40,000, while contemporary wood carvings from Cebu cost at least P350.

Furniture Village

Modern export-quality furniture is sold in the Furniture Village.

Food Village

The Food Village hosts 46 stalls selling local food specialties such as halo-halo, ihaw-ihaw, Minette's Inasal, Tita Lynn's flavored suman, Three Sisters’ Pasig pancit with chicharrón, budbod of Taytay (rice toppings), sisig, lechón, milkfish, and merienda specialties like bibingka, puto bungbong and kakanin. Products from the country's premier farms like Nenita's and Dizon's will also be made available here.

Delicacies Village

In the Delicacies Village, vendors sell small food offerings suitable for pasalubong include Vigan's empanada and longganisa, Tacloban's suman sa latik, chocolate suman, ube suman, langka suman and Cebu's famous danggit. Fresh fruits from the Davao Region like durian, mangosteen and mangoes among others to organic and fresh vegetables from Baguio and Benguet are also available.

Seafood sold in the Delicacies Village include special dried fish and pili from the Bicol Region, famous balut from Pateros, tuna from GenSan, crispy shrimps, cornick, and bagnet from Ilocos, taba ng talangka, biurong dalag, bottled smoked fish and oysters from Aklan and the well-loved boneless bangus from Dagupan City.

Many varieties of rice to cook are sold here, from Nueva Ecija's Jasponica and Balatinao from Benguet.

Exhibits

An area in Tiendesitas is dedicated to special trade shows, exhibits, and unique Filipino cultural presentations that are scheduled year-round. The Tiendesitas opening in September 2005 began with a week-long Bonsai exhibit at the People's Village and was followed in October by an antiques exhibit.

Calesa Rides

Shoppers can take calesa rides through the complex. During the opening, there were only three calesas available. Since then, more calesas have been operating in the area.

Entertainment

Tiendesitas provides live entertainment daily starting at 8:30 PM. Live bands perform in the middle of Tiendesitas. On Sundays, along with the live band, the Bughaw Cultural Dance Group regularly performs, allowing visitors to witness traditional Filipino dances.

From San Juan:

From Greenhills, ride the free shuttle to Tiendesitas. The shuttle service terminal is in front of Mercury Drug across Connecticut carpark. The shuttle leaves every hour from 2 pm to 8 pm (according to Greenhills website).

Alternatively, you can book a Grab ride straight to Tiendesitas for a convenient and comfortable journey

1. CHRISTMAS STREET LIGHTS TUNNEL (PASIG)

Opened this year, the Christmas Street Light Musical Tunnel will entertain visitors with a colorful light display synced with various yuletide jingles. The highly acclaimed display stretches along a section in front of the Tiendesitas shopping centre, covering the street with 2,368 pixels of light, made up of red, blue, and green bulbs, flickering to the beat of the music.


When to visit: From November 7 to January 7, the musical light show will play every 30 minutes from 6 PM to 10 PM, even as vehicles pass the festive street.

2. FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS (MAKATI)

Another musical light show that has been in the metro for years, Ayala Triangle Gardens, once again, is celebrating Christmas with all their beautiful Christmas lights and music!

When to visit: The park is open and you can watch the Festival of Lights from 6 PM to 10 PM, November 9 - January 8. Show starts every 30 minutes.

3. MAGIC OF LIGHTS (TAGUIG)

Another spectacular light display is a few minutes away from Makati. Magic of Lights is a crystal-inspired light and sound show at Bonifacio High Street’s park in Taguig City, with a huge “gift box” made up of small crystalline spheres, changing color to holiday music, and sometimes surrounded by fog and dancing laser lights. Around the gift box are lights twirled around palm trees and more lights hanging from establishments around the area, which also blink and change color in time to music.

When to visit: Magic of Light is happening everynight until January 7, 2018. Every 30 minutes, from 6 pm to 10 pm.

4. SPARKLE OF CHRISTMAS (MUNTINLUPA)

The newly opened Spectrum Linear Park has been transformed into a magical Christmas paradise through an enchanting lights-and-sounds show. Sparkle of Christmas features a 40-foot tall Christmas tree animated through very cool 3D mapping. There's also an arch of Christmas lights leading to the towering tree.

When to visit: Sparkle of Christmas at Filinvest City runs every weekend until December 31, 2017, every 30 minutes from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

5. THE NORTHERN LIGHTS (QUEZON CITY)

Up north in Metro Manila is a light and sound show portraying the Christmas tradition of Simbang Gabi, with a giant cathedral all aglow, surrounded by pillars of light. All blink and change color to Christmas medleys and amid fog and laser lights. The cathedral looks very much like the architecture of century-old Spanish churches.

6. VAST IMAGINARIUM MIRROR ROOMS (PASIG)

Estancia draws inspiration from Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama, known for her psychedelic paintings of loops and dots, dizzying walk-in installations, and picture-perfect sculptures. Making use of lights and mirrors, Vast Imaginarium presents three rooms—The Lit Room, The Abyss Room, and The Green Room—on different floors of the mall. There's also The Enchanted Room, which looks like a giant gift box found at the Capitol Commons Park.

7. POLICARPIO STREET (MANDALUYONG)

In 1995, one homeowner living along Policarpio Street decided to extend her Christmas display outside her home to spread happiness among her neighbors and passersby. Today, not one but almost all homeowners in Policarpio Street make it a goal every year to spread happiness among visitors of their lane. And so they dress up their front yards, gates, and facades with bright festive lights and larger-than-life displays.

When to visit: You can visit Policarpio Street as early as 6:30 PM to see the famous lane glow at night.

8. CHRISTMAS HOUSE (CAINTA)

To make his house as festive as possible, Alexander Cruz of Filinvest Homes East used 5,000 boxes of LED lights, each with 100 hundred bulbs. That's half a million lights! You can see a tunnel of lights, Christmas trees made of lights, curtains made of lights, and more lights. This tradition started in 2010 and Cruz' family has welcomed up to 1,000 visitors per day because of his amazingly decorated house.

9. MAGICAL FIELD OF LIGHTS (LAGUNA)

The Magical Field of Lights features hundreds to thousands of vividly colored dandelion-like stems that change color, tube lights, and light spheres that resemble magical orbs. Scattered in the expansive grass field are LED Christmas trees.

10. CHRISTMAS VILLAGE (MARIKINA)

ChristmasSaya Bazaar

Set in Marikina, the Christmassaya Bazaar & Grand Carnival sets itself apart from the other fairs in Metro Manila with its laidback location. The bazaar also features amusement rides via its Grand Christmas Carnival, as well as the Christmas attraction, The Spirit of Bethlehem Belen Museum. Visitors of the bazaar can also visit the nearby Philippine Science Centrum

11. LIGHTS AND SOUND SHOW (PASIG)

Early or mid-November, the city government of Pasig starts to set up the glamorous lights and sound all over the oldest park in the city - Plaza Rizal. The whole park is surrounded by thousands of Christmas lights dressed and hanging on the trees. They also place a 2 to 3-storey sized giant Christmas tree.

  • Target Ridership: Expected to serve over 400,000 daily passengers upon completion.

    • Primarily runs along Ortigas Avenue, Ortigas Avenue Extension, Taytay Diversion Road, and Manila East Road.

  • Reduced Travel Time: Cut travel from Taytay to Ortigas to less than 30 minutes, a drastic improvement from the current 1-3 hours by road.

  • Integrated Public Transport: Designed for seamless interconnections with existing lines (like MRT-3) and future projects (such as the Metro Manila Subway Projecty). It will also integrate with bus and jeepney feeder routes for enhanced accessibility.

  • Modern Design: Features include a barrier-free design for inclusive access and the use of 5-car electric multiple unit (EMU) trains, with stations built to accommodate future 6-car expansion.

MRT-4 Proposed Stations

While the exact final list of stations is still subject to the detailed engineering design (DED) process, based on various reports and preliminary plans for the MRT-4, here are the 10-11 suggested stations:

From West to East (roughly):

  1. EDSA: This would be a crucial interchange station, connecting with the existing MRT-3 at Ortigas.

  2. Meralco: Located in Pasig City, likely near the Meralco main office.

  3. Tiendesitas: Also in Pasig City, near the popular Tiendesitas commercial complex.

  4. Rosario: Another station in Pasig City, serving the Rosario area.

  5. St. Joseph: Located between Pasig City and Cainta, Rizal, possibly near St. Joseph Parish.

  6. Cainta Junction: A significant station in Cainta, Rizal, serving a major intersection.

  7. San Juan: Located in Cainta, Rizal, possibly near the San Juan area or Excelsior Villas (where the depot is planned).

  8. Tikling Junction: A key station in Taytay, Rizal, serving the busy Tikling area.

  9. Manila East Road: A station in Taytay, Rizal, along the Manila East Road.

  10. Taytay: The eastern terminus of the line, located in Taytay, Rizal, likely near the Taytay Public Market.

Some earlier plans or reports also mentioned a station called N. Domingo or Bonny Serrano in Quezon City/San Juan, near the Gilmore area, as a potential western terminus or connection to LRT-2. However, more recent updates suggest the EDSA station as the primary western terminus, making it usually a 10-station line, with the possibility of two provisional stations later.

It's important to note that specific station names and precise locations can still be subject to minor adjustments as the detailed engineering design is finalized and as the project progresses through its various stages.




Current Status and Project Timeline

The MRT-4 project has undergone meticulous planning and design adjustments to ensure its long-term viability and impact.

  • Funding Secured: Backed by a significant loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).

  • Detailed Engineering Design (DED): The Department of Transportation (DOTr), with Spanish consultant IDOM Consulting Engineering, Architecture SA, is finalizing the DED, anticipated to be completed by late 2025 or mid-2026.

  • Estimated Cost: The project's cost has increased to potentially over P100 billion due to the design upgrade and other factors.

  • Construction Start: Anticipated to commence in 2026.

  • Target Completion & Operations: Full operations are generally expected by 2031.

  • Right-of-Way (ROW): The DOTr is optimistic about managing ROW acquisition efficiently, given the line's alignment along major thoroughfares.
