An oasis inside the concrete jungle.

It's a big city out there and it's growing at an exhausting pace. And when you find yourself always following the same crowd, sometimes it helps to follow your own trail. Sometimes, all you need is the right fix to keep you going.

Whether it’s a refreshing dip in the pool, the adrenaline rush of scaling walls, or just the inner calm that comes with communing with nature, whatever your fix, you can find it in Rainforest Park. And when your visit comes to an end, you may leave a trail behind you, but Rainforest memories would remain with you all the way back to the big city.

Pasig RAVE will give you an ambiance that looks like you're in a countryside far from the city. The park is somewhat comparable to Quezon City’s La Mesa Eco Park, Pangasinan’s Sunflower Maze and Baguio’s Wright Park to name some. Making it a combination of several theme parks in one.

Pasig Revolving Tower

Originally known as the Mutya ng Pasig Tower, the Pasig Revolving Tower was erected as an 11-storey building in 1974 during the administration of then-Pasig Mayor Emiliano Caruncho Jr.

The renovated Pasig Revolving Tower in 2019

Situated amidst rice paddies and residential homes, it neighbored the Mutya ng Pasig public market. The tower boasted a unique feature—a revolving restaurant on its topmost floor, making it one of the two such establishments in Metro Manila during that era, the other being at the now-defunct Manila Royal Hotel in Quiapo, Manila.

In 2006, Mayor Robert Eusebio initiated an architectural and structural assessment of the Pasig Revolving Tower, driven by his background in architecture. The comprehensive study concluded in 2008, laying the groundwork for subsequent renovation efforts. Under the leadership of Mayor Maribel Eusebio, Robert's spouse and also an architect, renovation works commenced in 2015, primarily focusing on interior redesigns across multiple floors while retaining the iconic revolving restaurant on the eleventh floor.

After extensive renovation efforts, which included interior overhauls and structural enhancements, the Pasig Revolving Tower emerged anew in 2016. The project was completed during Robert Eusebio's second non-consecutive term as mayor, culminating in a grand re-inauguration ceremony held on November 18, 2016. The revitalized tower stands as a testament to Pasig City's commitment to preserving its architectural heritage while adapting to modern standards, offering both residents and visitors a timeless landmark to behold.

Old Rizal Provincial Capitol

The old Rizal Provincial Capitol, situated in Barangay Sta. Rosa, stands as a testament to Pasig's historical significance as the former capital of Rizal province before its integration into Metro Manila municipalities.

Old Rizal Provincial Capitol - Pasig
Old Rizal Provincial Capitol Today

Constructed during the tenure of Governor Jose Tupas, who served from 1906 to 1909, the capitol building served as the epicenter of provincial governance for over fifty years. Its halls echoed with the jubilance of community festivities, including the renowned Pasig Carnival, immortalized in Nicanor Abelardo's musical opus, the "Mutya ng Pasig" (Muse of Pasig).

Amidst the turmoil of World War II, the old capitol underwent a somber transformation, becoming a makeshift prison under Japanese occupation. Despite surviving the ravages of war, the provincial administration opted to relocate to a property along Shaw Boulevard, generously donated by the Ortigas family in 1950. Subsequently, the once vibrant capitol grounds transitioned into the industrial precinct of American Machinery Parts, Inc., fondly known as AMPARTS, persisting as the AMPARTS area even after the company's cessation of operations.

Today, the dilapidated remnants of the former capitol stand as silent witnesses to bygone eras, nestled in a serene enclave near the Marikina River. Despite the allure of its historical intrigue, access to the site remains elusive, thwarting

Eusebio's vision and Pasig City's Development Plan. For Mayor Enteng, the founding of PLP was the realization of a long-cherished dream, marking a crucial step towards addressing the city's socio-economic challenges through education.

The fact that it shared a pen name with national hero Dr. Jose Rizal all the more establishes its significance in the days when Pasig was starting to carve a name in entrepreneurship.

Parian Creek or The Bitukang Manok

Parian River, also known as The Bitukang Manok, holds historical significance as the site of Asemblea Magna, where hundreds of Katipuneros, led by Andres Bonifacio, gathered in May 1896.

This river serves as a link between the Pasig River and the Antipolo River, playing a pivotal role in transportation and pilgrimage routes during the 17th to early 20th centuries. Pilgrims from Manila and neighboring towns traversed the Bitukang Manok to reach the Shrine in Antipolo, with the revered image of Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage passing through this route numerous times.

During the 18th century, the Gremio de Mestizos de Sangley, or Chinese Mestizos, constructed a concrete covered bridge resembling a pagoda over the Bitukang Manok. Initially named Pariancillo Bridge, it was later renamed Fray Felix Trillo Bridge in honor of Pasig's esteemed pastor, reflecting the rich cultural and historical tapestry woven along the river's banks.

Bahay na Tisa

Bahay na Tisa proudly stands as the oldest bahay na bato in existence, bearing witness to over a century and a half of the city's rich history. Constructed in the early 1850s by Don Cecilio Tech y Cabrera, this architectural gem has been a cherished abode for seven generations of the Tech family, serving as both a home and a living archive of Pasig's past. Within its venerable walls, the Bahay na Tisa has silently observed and endured through significant historical events, bearing testament to the enduring legacy of the city and the nation.

Today, the direct descendants of Don Cecilio continue to reside within the hallowed halls of the Bahay na Tisa, preserving not only their familial heritage but also the cultural and historical significance of this esteemed structure. With its timeless charm and steadfast presence, the Bahay na Tisa stands as a poignant reminder of Pasig's colonial legacy and serves as a beacon of resilience and continuity amidst the ever-changing landscape of the city.

Heritage House of Raymundo Family

Just next behind Plaza Rizal is the Raymundo House, which has capiz windows on its two sides that face the streets. According to Tutay Raymundo, this was her family's ancestral house. Her great-grandfather, Julio Raymundo, was the first Mayor of Pasig. Julio's son, Cipriano, also served as a mayor.

Raymundo House

A lady named Liz Selavan Odnumyar recalls that the house used to have a bakery, Panaderia El Pasig, on the ground floor. The bakery was said to have been founded in 1913. Interestingly, Baltazar Raymundo, who founded the Panaderia El Pasig, was the brother of Teresa Raymundo, whose daughter, Felisa Santos, owned Panaderia Dimas-Alang (more on this later). Rolando Magallon, a former baker of Panaderia El Pasig, said that the bakery closed down in the 1990s.

The Raymundos of Pasig are related to the Raymundos of Pateros.

Santa Ana House

The Santa Ana House looks similar to the Concepción Mansion (today's Pasig City Museum). It has a relief of Dr. JosĆ© Rizal with the motto, "Aut Vincere Aut Mori (Either to conquer or to die)".

Santa Ana House

My favorite house is the Alba-Javier House, an early 20th century house with steps on the side leading to the second floor. It is not in the best condition currently as the house has been repurposed as a car wash shop.

Ijust hope the owners of these old but beautiful houses would continue taking care of these prized structures.

Ado's Panciteria

Ado’s Panciteria known to be the “The original Pancit with Chicharon” was established in 1952 by the late Librado “Ado” Castillo.

Ado's Panciteria

What started as a small family business is now one of the landmarks here in Pasig City.

Before Ado’s Panciteria was recognized, Mang Ado had a barber shop. Beside his Barber shop was a small panciteria run by his Chinese friend. He usually would watch his friend cook. This started his interest in noodles.

Mang Ado

His friend’s panciteria did not bloom, and that marked the start of his own panciteria. With the help of his wife and his eleven kids, Ado’s Panciteria started! At first the barber shop and the panciteria stood together but as more people enjoyed this unique pancit, the family decided to concentrate on it.

Mang Ado taught his kids the importance of good service and maintaining the quality of their products. From Bihon they added a few more noodles, all topped with the yummy and crunchy chicharon!

Years passsed by, more and more avid customers enjoyed every munch of Mang Ado’s Pancit. People in Pasig started to talk about the great food they serve and from a small Panciteria they were able to expand to cater more customers not only from Pasig but to other areas as well.

At present Ado’s Panciteria is still here and continuously growing. The same recipe, a different look but the same concepts to be of good service to every hungry pallete.

There are many stories about it, there are as many accidents at the foot of the bridge or before going down the bridge because motorists are said to see something, so when you pass by it, just slowly blow the horn.
