Best Time: Late October to May (Dry Season). The water is calm and the skies are clear, making it perfect for camping.

Avoid: Peak rainy season (July to September), as the resort is mostly open-air with very little solid shelter during heavy downpours.

Manuel Uy is strictly a camping-only resort. There are no air-conditioned rooms or private cottages, which is part of its charm. You can either bring your own gear or rent from them.

How to Get There


Step 1: Manila to Calatagan
Take a bus (DLTB or BSC) or a van from LRT Buendia, Pasay, or Metropoint Mall (Taft) bound for Calatagan.

Fare: ₱180 – ₱230

Travel Time: 3.5 to 4.5 hours.


Step 2: Calatagan Town Proper to Resort
Alight at the Calatagan Public Market/Terminal. Before heading to the resort, buy your supplies (water, meat for grilling, ice) at the market as prices are much higher at the beach.

Take a tricycle to Manuel Uy Beach Resort.

Fare: ₱200 per trike (Good for 4 pax).

Environmental Fee: ₱30 per person (Paid at the tourism office near the market or the resort entrance).





Pro-Tips for a Better Trip


Water is Gold: While there are common shower and toilet areas (which are surprisingly clean), fresh water for drinking must be brought in.

No Bonfires: To protect the shoreline, bonfires and fire pits directly on the sand are strictly prohibited.

Charge Your Gadgets: There is a charging station near the security outpost where you can plug in your phones for a small fee (usually ₱20–₱50).

Low Tide: Check the tide app! During very low tide, the water recedes quite far, revealing the "sandbar" but making it a long walk for a swim.

    HOW TO GET TO BUROT BEACH

    From EDSA-Taft (Rotonda), there are buses and vans bound for Calatagan (P180). Upon reaching the town center, take a tricycle to Burot Beach (P150-P200).

    For those who are bringing own vehicle, you may use Waze or Google Maps for directions. If you don’t have a private vehicle, you can rent a car or van here.




    THINGS TO REMEMBER

    • Bring a headlamp, flashlight, candle, whatever you please to create a light.  There is no electricity in the area. 
    • The little sari-sari store, NOT a convenience store in the area is the only  source of commodities available. Do your grocery at the market before  heading to the place.
    • Do not expect a grand accommodation because there is none. There are  neither rooms nor decent toilets. You will have to bring your own tent  because either of the cottages can give you decent sleep. There is a  water supply but I do not think it is potable. 
    • You will see starfishes of different colors and sizes, you can touch them  but refrain from bringing them off the shore. They are beautiful; let  them live. And so are the other creatures you will see.
    • You can agree when the boatman offered “island hopping” for Php130.00 per  head. Do not, if its beyond that price as what he is offering is really  not an island hopping. Yes, he will bring you to away from the shore,  but drop you off to the sandbar that appears during low tide.

    Punta de Santiago Lighthouse AKA Punta de Santiago or Faro de Punta Santiago or simply Calatagan Lighthouse, Cape Santiago is an imposing 51-foot tall white and red brick lighthouse that was built in the late 1800's to guide seafarers passing Verde Island passage, San Bernardino Strait and the Manila Bay. The light house was built by Magin Pers and Guillermo Brockman, the same guys who designed the Cape Bojeador Lighthouse in Ilocos Norte.

    • Grill your favorite dish (Ihaw by the beach) - Get excited and grill your favorite inihaw na liempo, bangus, chicken and anything that will satisfy your cravings. You can cook fresh shrimps, lobsters, etc straight from the the fishermen who passes by the shore. There are also squids that you can stuff with onions and tomatoes.

    • Beach Volleyball (Sea and Sand Sports) - Win or lose you'll still get a dose of thrill and excitement! Whether your an expert or beginner, it does not matter at all, all you need to do is hit that ball.

    • Build your own sand castle - This is perfect for the kids and kids at heart, build that enchanted sand castle, keep on digging and you might be surprised to catch a crab.

    • Bonfire under the stars - Spend that unforgettable night under the stars with a warm campfire on your side. Go stargazing, making s'mores, chanting and dancing. Telling ghost stories and play games to spice up the night. This activity is surely going to be memorable.

    • Fishing - Fishing is a hobby that a lot of people are trilled to do. Appreciate the different kinds of salt water fishes and rare catch of South China Sea. Try your luck! You might catch some of the fishes namely: Lapu-Lapu, Talakitok, Alamais, Samaral, Kitang, Dangit, Parrot Fish, etc. Prepare your rod and bait and get ready for this adventure.

    MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE

    I didn't know we were going here when our friends brought us to Casa Astillero in 2014. All I know is we were going to spend an overnight stay somewhere in Batangas.

    We were happy to have a nice weather during our stay. In my opinion, Calatagan has one of the best sunsets in the Philippines (just like what Manila Bay, Dumaguete Boulevard and Nasugbu, Batangas in common).

    The sea was low tide on the first day of our visit. We took a stroll to the beach in the afternoon and witnessed a slowly setting sun from afar. It was a bit cloudy yet it was still picture-perfect. The sky was red and the sunlight was perfectly reflected by the calm sea.

    For our food, we brought our raw ingredients and cooked our dinner using their grill and electricity since we brought our own rice cooker. He he he!

    We asked the staff to help us set up a bonfire by the beach for us to chill the rest of the evening. We had some beers and s'mores plus tons of stories and laughter. The beach is also good for physical activities and team building.

    Before going to sleep, one of us had his interest in hunting some crabs - those tiny crabs hiding in the sand. We walked to the shore which wasn't covered by the sea waters (low tide) and find more crabs there. Ha ha ha! We even found some starfishes!

    All the walking, running, hunting ended in almost an hour and we completed our day sleeping in our tent - the ones we rented from the resort. Our tent was so big that it can fit in 6-8 pax in it.

    I didn't have a good sleep in the tent although it was comfy enough. I might not be used to sleeping in a tent. So the following day, I was a bit sleepy the whole day.


    After having our breakfast, we decided to go to the beach then hoorah! The waters are back! It was knee-high and we can barely swim in it. Ha ha ha! Anyway, I still appreciated the calmness of the sea. We took a walk a few meters more until we reach a leg-high sea. From here, we could sit down and dip our bodies to the waters.

    Another thing I love in this beach is the sand. The sand was fine and smooth even if you go farther, you would still step on same sand you see from the beach. It reminds me of the sand in Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar in Bataan and in Calayo Beach in Nasugbu, Batangas.

    After a few hours of soaking to the waters we packed up and headed back home. But me and my girlfriend decided to have a side trip to Tagaytay and go to Sky Ranch to spend the rest of the day.

    Far from the hustle and bustle of the busy tourist destination, relish a semi private resort and  experience sleeping in kawayan and banigs. Surrounded by trees and a scenic view of the beach, it is a relaxation ecotherapy that is far from the ordinary vacation of staying in concrete and air-conditioned rooms. Welcoming verandas are cozy and ideal for long talks and bonding with family, friends and special someone.

    • Rate = P 2,500 (Overnight/ Day tour)with foam banig

    Open Picnic Cottages

    If you can picture yourself sipping coffee with the view of the beach, getting a glimpse of an exotic bird, walking the beach to collect seashells and building sandcastles. Or just picture yourself spending the day at the sea or playing beach volleyball then Open cottages are for you.

    Shoreline and U Cottages

    Escape to a place where you can de -stress. Shoreline native huts are made from Sasa and Kawayan. If you find it tiring to swim you can just take a rest at the nearest open cottage, its literally few steps from the salty waters and you can be at peace with the sound of the waves and breeze of fresh air. Grab some picnic mat and you can bask in the sun all day.

    Balsa Cottages

    Balsa can be both fun and romantic; the romantic atmosphere makes this the perfect place for both the young, and the young at heart. It’s a perfect venue for family picnic and romantic date, go far from the shore when you can snorkel and enjoy the serenity of the view surrounded by the blue waters until sunset. It is made of bamboo with sunbathing area.

    Air-Conditioned Rooms

    Native inspired Air -Conditioned rooms with Kawayan Tables and Bedframes, good for group of 6, has 1 double bed with pull out and 1 double deck detachable complete with Mattress and Pillows. Each room has its own restroom perfect for family bonding and barkada getaway.
