Typhoon Update by PAGASA Issued at 02:00 PM, 01, July 2019

Tropical Depression”Egay”

TROPICAL DEPRESSION “EGAY” REMAINS ALMOST STATIONARY WHILE OVER THE LUZON STRAIT DUE EAST OF BABUYAN GROUP OF ISLANDS.
  • Today, the Southwest Monsoon will bring light to moderate with at times heavy monsoon rains over most of Luzon, including Metro Manila, and Western Visayas, while cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms over Caraga, Davao Region, and the rest of Visayas. Tomorrow (02 July), monsoon rains may continue over Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, Cordillera, Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Mindoro Provinces, and Palawan.
  • Residents in the aforementioned areas, especially those living in areas identified to be at high risk of flooding and landslides, are advised to take precautionary measures, coordinate with local disaster risk reduction and management offices, and continue monitoring for updates, especially the Thunderstorm Advisories and Heavy Rainfall Warnings to be issued by PAGASA Regional Services Divisions.

  • Moderate to rough seas will prevail over the seaboards of Northern Luzon and the western seaboards of Central and Southern Luzon. Those with small seacrafts are advised not the venture out in these areas.
  • This weather disturbance is expected to weaken into a Low-Pressure Area within 12 to 24 hours.

At 1:00 PM of July 1, the center of Tropical Depression “EGAY” was estimated based on all available data at 175 km East of Calayan, Cagayan (19.5 °N, 123.1 °E )

Department of Education (DepEd) Class Suspension Guideline:

  • DepEd Calls on parents to determine whether their children should go to school during typhoons, floods and other calamities in the absence of official announcements from DepEd.
  • In the absence of storm signal warnings, LGU are expected to announce whole day class cancellations not later than 4:30AM or half day class suspensions not later than 11:00AM.
  • Storm signal warning declared by PAGASA between 10:00pm and 4:30AM reflect the whole day cancellation of classes in appropriate levels in the affected areas.
  • Storm signal warnings declared by PAGASA by 11:00AM automatically suspend the same day’s afternoon classes in appropriate levels in the affected areas.
*Suspension of classes for the tertiary level (colleges and universities) will be at the discretion of school management.
