Just like Gerard Butler's recently released "Plane" movie, this one is also based in the Philippines.

If there's one thing that would make any Filipino curious about Jennifer Lopez's return to the romantic-comedy genre with the movie "Shotgun Wedding," it's the fact that the movie is set in the Philippines

But before most curious Filipinos can shout "Pinoy Pride" and check out the location of the so-called Philippine resort, one has to shell out money to fly to the Dominican Republic.

Yes, the J.Lo and Josh Duhamel starrer might feature the beauty and amenities of the fictional Mahal Island Resort as their characters' destination wedding but the movie was shot in large part in the Dominican Republic due to the COVID-19 restrictions in place during its filming.

"Shotgun Wedding" tells the story of Darcy Rivera (Jennifer Lopez) and Josh Duhamel (Tom Fowler) who decided to get married in a private island in the Philippines. What should have been a happy occasion turned tension-filled as the couple along with their guests found themselves hostaged by local pirates.

Recently released on Prime Video, the movie also stars Jennifer Coolidge, Sonia Braga, Cheech Marin, Callie Hernandez and Lenny Kravitz.

As it is set in the Philippines, it also features Filipino actors based outside of the Philippines in its cast. Among them are "Ginny and Georgia" actor Alex Mallari Jr. and Ray Raymundo.

"I am beyond grateful and proud to be apart of this feature film as a Filipino-American actor," wrote Raymundo on his Instagram.

He added a fun fact that said the movie is based in the Philippines. The Filipino-American actor also recalled his experience while working on the set of the movie.

"I flew out first class to the Dominican Republic and was on set for a week. I had an unforgettable/amazing experience working with Josh Duhamel & Jason Moore. (Yes, I saw JLO in person but wasn’t able to talk to her obviously," he added.

Was Shotgun Wedding filmed in the Philippines?

Based on Charles Cumming’s novel ‘The Plane,’ ‘Plane’ is an action thriller movie helmed by Jean-François Richet that follows the crew members and passengers of a flight piloted by a commercial pilot, Brodie Torrance.

Richet manages to make a risky yet successful landing on a dangerous island without any casualties after the plane gets damaged by a storm. After landing, Brodie realizes that not-so-friendly anti-government militias rule the island.

When the armed rebels take most of the passengers hostage for large ransoms from their respective families, Brodie is left with no choice but to uncuff and count on the convict Louis Gaspare. The latter is an accused murderer who he is supposed to transport securely by order of the FBI. Now, the two team up to rescue the passengers and forsake this unfriendly island together.

The island’s secluded location not only captivates the viewers but also makes them wonder where was plane filmed. If you are curious about the same, you might be interested in what we have to share!

Plane Filming Locations

‘Plane’ was filmed in Puerto Rico and seemingly in California, specifically in the San Juan Metropolitan Area and Los Angeles. As per reports, the principal photography for the Gerard Butler starrer commenced in early August 2021 and wrapped up in about eight weeks or so in early October. Although the story is set on the Philippines’ Jojo island, the makers chose to shoot most of the movie on the Caribbean island, given its similar features.

San Juan Metropolitan Area, Puerto Rico

Almost all the pivotal sequences for ‘Plane’ were lensed in the San Juan metropolitan area, in the northeastern part of Puerto Rico, centered around the eponymous city. Specifically, Puerto Rico Convention Center at 100 Convention Boulevard in San Juan doubled as the airport terminal where many airplane-related scenes were shot. Given that the filming unit was granted permission to shoot on the site for a week or so, they had to be extra careful while recording all the scenes they planned.

Besides, most of the exterior scenes depicting the island of Jojo were taped on location in and around Castillo San Cristobal, Castillo San Felipe del Morro, both at 501 C. Norzagaray in San Juan, Barrio Obrero, and Roosevelt Roads Naval Station in Ceiba. In addition, the production team transformed the Pedrín Zorrilla Stadium or Coliseíto Pedrín Zorrilla at CW7H+X64, Calle Nemesio R. Canales in San Juan into a soundstage to lens various important interior scenes.

Los Angeles, California

A few scenes for ‘Plane’ were possibly taped in Los Angeles, the largest city in California. The filming unit reportedly utilized the facilities of one of the film studios in or around LA and shot some key interior sequences for the movie. Located in Southern California, the City of Angels is home to numerous tourist attractions, including the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, the Hollywood Sign, the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

TV host-comedian Willie Revillame announced on his online show, Wowowin, on September 1 that he’s been in discussion with former Senator Manny Villar for the target soft launch on Tuesday, September 13 of AMBS’ flagship channel to be called ‘AllTV’ with the slogan ‘Saya All’.

History of AMBS

All TV operates under AMBS, which is owned by Prime Asset Ventures founder Manuel Paolo Villar. The station is still on test broadcast but will be airing under the former frequencies of ABS-CBN.

AMBS was previously owned by the Vera family before it was sold to Villar's Planet Cable by AMBS president Andrew Santiago. In 2019, it was granted a 25-year franchise extension under Republic Act 11253.

In May 2020, the ABS-CBN network was forced to shut down after failing to secure a new franchise. After two years, the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) awarded AMBS the rights to use ABS-CBN’s former frequencies, channel 2 and channel 16.

All TV programming

The announcement of upcoming shows of AllTV will be made by Revillame on his show, Wowowin. He assured that their shows would be made bigger and better with some of your best celebrities and entertainers. It will also feature some of the best news anchors and personalities.

Revillame said ‘Wowowin’ will be in the primetime slot between 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm.

The station's soft launch will take place in September, but the grand launch will take place early 2023.

Revillame said ‘AllTV’ will be available as well on Sky Cable and Cignal via Channel 35.

Henann Resort Alona Beach is the biggest beach resort in Panglao Island, Bohol that sits on a lush 6.5 hectare property on the pristine shores of Alona Beach.

The name Henann was derived from the group chairman's name HENry and wife ANNa. As the biggest home grown resort group in the country today, Henann prides itself on having an all Filipino work force showcasing what Filipino hospitality is all about.

Boracay Regency, now Henann Regency Resort & Spa started out with 43 rooms, a swimming pool, a restaurant and 65 employees trained according to international standards. The resort focused on offering quality accommodations and facilities at a very reasonable rate, thus attracting more and more patrons. Even at this early stage, the resort showed excellence in its performance as it was the first resort at the long beach to receive the highest resort rating from the Department of Tourism.

To date, Henann Regency Resort & Spa has 302 rooms, almost seven times bigger than its original 43 rooms. With Boracay becoming a more well-known tourist destination here and abroad, it is not surprising that new resorts were being built in the island while the other resorts started upgrading.

In 2009, the company joined the bandwagon by acquiring its neighboring Korean-owned Hotel Seraph and named it Henann Garden Resort . Four months after the acquisition, the company opened its third venture in the island, the Henann Lagoon Resort.

Who is Jose Mari Chan?

Jose "Joe" Mari Lim Chan (born March 11, 1945) is a Filipino singer, TV host, songwriter and businessman in the sugar industry. He is currently chairman and CEO of Binalbagan Isabela Sugar Company, Inc. (BISCOM) and A. Chan Sugar Corporation. He is also the chairman and president of Signature Music, Inc.

Awarded in 1974 as one of the Ten Outstanding Young Men of the Philippines. He received a Lifetime Achievement Awards from the Philippine Association of the Recording Industry and The Metro Pop Foundation. Recipient of the first ever ABS-CBN "ELITE Platinum Award" in 2005 and a recipient of the 2006 Dr. Jose P Rizal Award For Excellence.

Chan was born on March 11, 1945 in Iloilo City and was the first-born child of Antonio Chan and Florencia Lim.

His father was an immigrant from Fujian, China who came to the Philippines at age 13 and started a sugar trading company in Bacolod. Chan's mother was the only child of a Chinese-Filipino couple.

Chan was exposed to music in his childhood with his maternal grandmother from Cebu often playing music at their house and his mother being a pianist. He was also accompanied by the family's house helper to participate in the radio program Children's Hour on DYRI where children performed the piano, sang, and recited poetry.

Chan wrote his first song at age 13.

Chan's father was supportive of his involvement in Children's Hour but was reluctant of supporting his music career by the time he was age 14 or 15 when he began composing songs. His father was concerned their Chinese background would put Chan at a disadvantage in the music industry and encouraged him to relegate his music pursuits as a hobby and to pursue a business career instead.

When Chan reminded the older gentleman that he did have a flair for composing, he was told that that particular field "would not be enough to support a family." It was then he realized the wisdom and concern voiced by his parent.

Musical Career

Chan first appeared on the local scene as a guest on Pilita Corrales's program An Evening with Pilita in 1965. The next year, he became the host and singer of a television show called 9 Teeners of ABS-CBN 3 (now ABS-CBN 2) which aired on weekdays and Saturday in 1966.

Since he was a junior student at that time at Ateneo and he was being encouraged to become a businessman, his father only consented his involvement if he was not paid salary for the stint. His first single "Afterglow" was released in 1967. He would release his first album two years later. after he was approached by an independent record producer.

His first long playing album Deep in My Heart was issued in 1969. In 1973, he represented the Philippines in the World Popular Song Festival in Tokyo where his song "Can We Just Stop And Talk Awhile" went into the final entries.

For more or less than four years from 1970 to 1974, Jose Mari Chan was able to compose more than 20 songs for movies and earned him different recognitions and nominations at the Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences Awards (FAMAS Awards).

He also wrote several well-loved commercial jingles, among which are the Philippine Airlines' "Love at Thirty Thousand Feet", the Knorr Chinese Soup jingle, and the Alaska Milk jingle. Between 1974 and 1975 he was the Star of a series of Television Network Specials spotlighting his words and music.

In 1990, his Christmas album, Christmas in Our Hearts was released. It reached triple platinum status that same year, eventually earning the Double Diamond Record Award in 1995, for selling over 20 million units. The significant popularity of his iconic Christmas songs and the album during the holiday season annually earned him the title "Father of Philippine Christmas Music".

In 1994, he released his eighth album, Thank You Love, where he has another song "Is She Thinking About Me" with Christine Bersola-Babao and another Christmas song, "Christmas Past". His 2001 album A Heart's Journey won Album of the year in the Awit Awards. In 2005, he composed "We're All Just One" as the theme song of the 2005 Southeast Asian Games. In 2007, he released his 12th album Love Letters and Other Souvenirs.

In 2009, Chan was inducted to the Philippines Eastwood City Walk Of Fame.

In 2011, he released his 13th full-length album, The Manhattan Connection: The Songs of Jose Mari Chan. The album, which was produced by Janis Siegel of The Manhattan Transfer. The songs were reimagined by music producer Yaron Gershovsky.

In 2012, he released his 14th over-all album Going Home to Christmas. It was his second Christmas album after 22 years since Christmas In Our Hearts was released in 1990.

Due to Chan's association to Christmas music in the Philippines, he has been a frequent subject of internet memes during the Christmas season in the country which traditionally starts in September. Because of his popularity during these seasons, he was known as the "King of Filipino Christmas Carols"

A Jose Mari Chan meme.

He is married to Mary Ann Ansaldo and has five children, who have inherited their musical talent from him. His daughter, Liza, has been featured in several duets with him. His sons Joe & Mike Chan formed a musical duo and released their debut album in 2019 under Star Music.
