WHO IS JOSE MARI CHAN

The singer, who is best known for classic hits like “Christmas in Our Hearts,” “Can We Just Stop and Talk Awhile,” and “Deep in my Heart,” shared in a recent interview with “TV Patrol” his thoughts on the pandemic-themed memes.

IN TIMES OF PANDEMIC...

“I find it amusing, except that when they put it on a negative point of view, when they say, ‘Malapit na ako, kayo matagal pa, you know it’s like negative, (like) hoping this pandemic will last for a long time. I wish that the messages of the memes will be more positive like ‘Malapit na, don’t worry! I know it’s darkness all over, but the dawn is coming.’”

Chan is one of the in-demand performers especially during Holiday season. But with the COVID-19 pandemic still raging in and around the country, the singer admitted he’s still adjusting to changes brought about by the new safety protocols.

“To be honest, there is none (gigs) at the moment because of the limited protocol na no concert, no get togethers. Even going to church, we have to content ourselves with hearing mass online,” he said.

The 75-year-old said he is more than willing to lend his talent to perform online for a good cause.

CHAN IS OPEN FOR INVITATION

“I have not really received an invitation to do a concert online and I’ll be very happy to do it,” he added.

Who is Jose Mari Chan?

Jose "Joe" Mari Lim Chan (born March 11, 1945) is a Filipino singer, TV host, songwriter and businessman in the sugar industry. He is currently chairman and CEO of Binalbagan Isabela Sugar Company, Inc. (BISCOM) and A. Chan Sugar Corporation. He is also the chairman and president of Signature Music, Inc.

Awarded in 1974 as one of the Ten Outstanding Young Men of the Philippines. He received a Lifetime Achievement Awards from the Philippine Association of the Recording Industry and The Metro Pop Foundation. Recipient of the first ever ABS-CBN "ELITE Platinum Award" in 2005 and a recipient of the 2006 Dr. Jose P Rizal Award For Excellence.

Chan was born on March 11, 1945 in Iloilo City and was the first-born child of Antonio Chan and Florencia Lim.

His father was an immigrant from Fujian, China who came to the Philippines at age 13 and started a sugar trading company in Bacolod. Chan's mother was the only child of a Chinese-Filipino couple.

Chan was exposed to music in his childhood with his maternal grandmother from Cebu often playing music at their house and his mother being a pianist. He was also accompanied by the family's house helper to participate in the radio program Children's Hour on DYRI where children performed the piano, sang, and recited poetry.

Chan wrote his first song at age 13.

Chan's father was supportive of his involvement in Children's Hour but was reluctant of supporting his music career by the time he was age 14 or 15 when he began composing songs. His father was concerned their Chinese background would put Chan at a disadvantage in the music industry and encouraged him to relegate his music pursuits as a hobby and to pursue a business career instead.

When Chan reminded the older gentleman that he did have a flair for composing, he was told that that particular field "would not be enough to support a family." It was then he realized the wisdom and concern voiced by his parent.

15 Funny COVID-19 Memes to give you good vibes amid the pandemic

Are consumers blindly paying for a brand name and a premium price tag? A heated debate is currently brewing on social media after a netizen shared a personal, head-to-head experiment testing the quality of four popular insulated water bottle brands in the country.

In a post, Cer Russell King Sia revealed that he tested several well-known brands simultaneously—Aquaflask, Hydroflask, Klean Kanteen, and Sunnies—to determine which one delivers the best value for ice retention.

According to the details of his experiment, he filled all four tumblers with the exact same amount of ice and water, leaving them untouched for 24 hours to observe the durability of their insulation.

The final results came as a massive surprise to many consumers who frequently spend top dollar on high-end lifestyle brands.

"Aquaflask ang nagiisang after 24hrs may yelo pa sure na malamig. The rest wla ng lamig. Thank me later," Sia stated in his post.

Aside from the performance aspect, he also highlighted the significant price disparity among the products. According to Sia, Aquaflask also happens to be the cheapest among the four choices he compared, demonstrating that the most expensive product doesn't always guarantee the best everyday performance.

The post quickly drew a wave of engagement and reactions from the public. Many netizens expressed gratitude for the straightforward, unbiased review, noting that it provides excellent guidance for practical shoppers looking for heavy-duty quality without breaking the bank.

As inflation forces consumers to be more discerning with their spending, grassroots tests like this continue to serve as a reliable reality check for popular lifestyle gear.
