Social Items

The Social Security System (SSS) serves as a crucial insurance program, offering assistance during unexpected life events such as sickness, maternity, old age, and death. Given its pivotal role in providing social protection, SSS membership has become indispensable for every Filipino.

Even if you're charting your own career path or experiencing a temporary gap in employment, you need not fret about your future. Voluntary membership with SSS ensures that you can still avail of its benefits and secure your social security coverage.

Changing SSS Status From 'Employed' to 'Voluntary'

Changing your status from employed to voluntary is straightforward and can be done in two ways. The first method is via online channels, which offer a convenient and hassle-free process. Alternatively, if online transactions pose challenges, you can opt to visit any SSS branch office in person.

But remember, before proceeding with changing your SSS status, it's important to understand the implications of transitioning from employed to voluntary status. As an employed member, your contributions are typically deducted automatically from your salary by your employer. As a voluntary member, you will be responsible for making your own contributions directly to the SSS.

Here's the SSS Contribution Table for Voluntary, Self Employed, OFW & Kasambahay

Eligibility

Ensure that you meet the eligibility requirements to become a voluntary SSS member. Generally, individuals who are no longer employed, self-employed individuals, freelancers, entrepreneurs, non-working spouses, and overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) can register as voluntary members.

Here are the steps to transition your status:

1. Online Method

  1. Access the My.SSS portal and log in to your account.

  2. Generate a Payment Reference Number (PRN) and select "Voluntary" or "OFW" as your membership type.

  3. Your status will automatically change once the contribution is paid.

  4. Payment can be made at any nationwide payment center or online through GCash for added convenience.

2. In-Person Method

  1. Visit the nearest SSS branch office.

  2. Fill out the necessary forms and indicate "Voluntary" under "Type of Payor".

  3. Your membership status will be updated upon posting of the payment.

For those classified as Nonworking Spouses:

  1. Check the "Non-Working Spouse" box on the E-4 form.

  2. Provide your spouse's CRN or SSS number and monthly income.

  3. Obtain your spouse's signature of agreement to your SSS membership.

By following these steps, you can seamlessly transition from employed to voluntary status with SSS. Whether online or in person, SSS ensures accessibility and flexibility in managing your social security coverage, empowering you to safeguard your future with confidence.
