The Manila City government will be granting P1,000 cash assistance each to more than 500,000 families amid the COVID-19 crisis, Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso announced on Sunday, April 5.

Domagoso made the announcement after signing Ordinance No. 8625, also known as the City Amelioration Crisis Assistance Fund.


The ordinance authorizes the allocation of a supplemental budget amounting to P591 million to provide cash assistance to about 568,000 families.

The Mayor said the city government is aiming to distribute the cash assistance to all 568,000 families before Easter.

“House-to-house po (ang distribution), wala pong pila. Lahat ng itinala ninyo ay dapat n'yong bigyan isa-isa. Sila ay mag-iisyu ng resibo at acknowledgement receipt,” Domagoso said via Facebook Live.

“Huwag n'yong pupuntahan ang inyong Chairman. Mag-uumpisa po tayong mamimigay sa Martes,” he added, stressing the importance of physically distancing and avoiding mass gatherings.

According to the ordinance, the sources of fund shall be derived from the Office of the Mayor, Manila Department of Social Welfare and the City Development Fund.

“The amount of P1,000 per beneficiary shall be given to barangay-identified beneficiaries as financial assistance to be distributed in the 896 barangays in the City of Manila to cushion the effect of the COVID-19 crisis and to enable the people of Manila to purchases much needed food and supplies for their survival,” the ordinance read.

Domagoso vowed to update his constituents via Facebook Live regarding the distribution of the cash aid, starting Tuesday night.

"Gabi-gabi ipahahayag ko sa inyo ang mga barangay na tumanggap na ng cash o CACAF. Sila ay required na mag-liquidate in three days,” the Mayor said.

"Ako naman, pakiusap ko, buong kababaang-loob, tulungan n'yo ako. Ako po ay naniniwala sa inyo. Kayo ay mga halal ng bayan. Kailangan na kailangan namin ang tulong ninyo,” he said.
