On Wednesday, Grab Philippines shared on social media a photo of the dish with the words: “If food is essential, and lugaw is food, therefore lugaw is essential.”
It added: “Let’s give thanks to all our Grab riders na tuloy lang sa paghatid ng ating essential needs! Saludo po kami sa inyo, kuyas and ates!”
The company even updated its advisory to include “lugaw” among essentials that could be delivered during the enhanced community quarantine, and offered free delivery by using the code “LUGAWISESSENTIAL.”
Grab issued the statement after a video of a rider who was barred from delivering lugaw in Bulacan went viral.
The video showed the rider discussing with a woman, who insisted that lugaw was not an essential item.
Commenting on the viral video, Malacañang on Wednesday said lugaw was an essential good and clarified that food delivery services were allowed to operate beyond curfew hours during ECQ in the NCR Plus bubble.
