Last June, I went to Tagaytay for the second time this year with the same squad for an overnight stay.

This is our way to relax and escape from the hectic life in the city. It was also our celebration for our groom-to-be friend who will take vows with his long time girlfriend in July this year.

It was Saturday. As usual, we started our trip in the morning. We were driving two vehicles, the first one went ahead to Tagaytay City. Our car needed to fix one of the wheels so it took us hours before getting off the road. Luckily, we found a service along one of  the gasoline station (stopover) in SLEX.

To catch up with our friends, we decided to exit in Mamplasan where an entrance to CALAX is connected to. When we reached interchange to Sta. Rosa, we took off the road going to Silang. We turned right to South Blvd. in South Forbes, Sta. Rosa. We drove ahead to Cardiac Rd. where we notice a huge portion of a golf course in the area. Then in just a few minutes, we already reached Brgy. Tibig Rd. in Silang, Cavite.

ALTERNATE WAY TO TAGAYTAY

When we reached the end of Brgy. Tibig Rd., we took off the road in Brgy. Munting Ilog until we reach Brgy. Ulat Rd. Then instead of finishing off the Ulat Rd., we turned right to Pulong Bunga Rd. This give us an access heading to Emilio Aguinaldo Hi-way. We exited from a place where we saw a signage of Camella Silang.

Somewhere along Brgy. Tibig Road

Though it took us more meters on the road, that way saved us so much time avoiding the heavy traffic along Sta. Rosa - Tagaytay Rd. Specially, a lot of people travel to Tagaytay this time on a Saturday.

Just a few meters away, we took off the access road to the newly opened Tagaytay Bypass Road which brought us straight to Kaybagal North. This saved  us time from time from the jampacked Tagaytay - Nasugbu Rd.


MELIA'S FAMILY HOUSE STAYCATION

In less than 2 hours coming from SLEX, we arrived to our destination. It was past noon when we came in to Melia's Family House. It was a great Airbnb find by my friend, Basti.

It is a 3-storey house with living area, dining area, kitchen (and dirty kitchen), a restroom and a guest room in the first floor, entertainment area and two bedrooms in the second, and a spacious rooftop with dining in the third floor. It also features high ceiling in the living area and a floor-to-ceiling glass walls.

The property has covered parking space, a little garden in front of the house and veranda in the second level. We were also given slippers to use inside and another pair of it in the rooftop.



Although we were only seven, the whole house is open for up to 10 persons per stay.


The location of the property is not that far from the city proper. However, it is recommended to bring own vehicle since it is located in a secluded area where public utility vehicles are not available. Though, Savemore in Mendez Crossing is just a few minutes drive away from the house.

You can book a stay at Melia's Family House on Airbnb app. Rate starts at P8,000 per night. You can use Waze app for directions to this vacation house. 

Hot tip! Buy your pasalubong in the morning (I suggest at around 8am) depending to the opening of stores or establishments in Tagaytay. In our case, we went to Mahogany Market for dried goods like Tawilis at 7:30am, then a quick visit at Balay Dako for their special Piaya and Kuuma Kakao for a pack of Cocoa.


Overall, I enjoyed our short trip to Tagaytay amidst of COVID-19 pandemic. Of course, we wore masks and face shields whenever we were out and about.

HOW TO GET TO BATIS NG KALIKASAN

Thought Batis ng Kalikasan is technically part of Laguna, the best way to get here is by passing along the roads of Rizal Province. The Municipality of Santa Maria is located inside the mountainous part of Laguna.

So if you are bringing your own vehicle going here from Manila (which is the best option) you must take the roads of Taytay, Cainta, Angono, Binangonan, Morong and Pililla. Once you reach Pililla, stay on the curvy Manila East Road until you reach the junction (just look for Nanguma Elementary School as your landmark for this corner) where you have to turn left to J. Rizal St. in Mabitac, Laguna.

Once you reach the end of J. Rizal St., turn right to Real Velasquez St. then turn left to J. Velasquez St. (landmark is Green Gas Station. From here, the view looks like a typical province town where you see more trees and land than houses or establishments. Stay straight on the road until you see the signage ahead to Batis ng Kalikasan.

MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE

It took me weeks before I got to taste this viral Litson Baka (Lechon Baka) of Andok's. Although they have plenty of branches here in Taguig, unfortunately, none has Litson Baka to offer.


So instead of looking for a nearby Andok's branch, I ordered via Grab Pabili service. Thankfully, our location is not too far from Pasig where two of their stores are located about 3 kilometers from where I live. I was so happy to know that finally, I get to try this hyped beef!


The box of Litson Baka costs P350.00 (as of writing). It is put in a classic Andok's box with a tagline "Baka Naman" (#BakaNaman). It looks like a small serving inside, but surprisingly, it's plenty enough for one or two mouths.


The beef is tender and cut into very thin layers. You can smell the signature Andok's aroma (if you have already eaten their Litson Manok and Liempo, you know what I mean) and it savors into your mouth - a perfect match to plain rice!


I'm not into sauces, however, you may also dip it in to the vinegar that came along with the beef inside the box. Usually, for their Litson Manok and other dishes, they serve their very own gravy to partner them. But for this one, they have cups of vinegar instead.

Overall, I am so glad to try Andok's Litson Baka! I love its taste and texture. I will definitely order another in the future. Hopefully, they leave it permanent on their menu and should be available from all of their branches (specially in Taguig! hahaha).

When will the COVID-19 vaccines be available to me?

The government is currently in the initial phase of vaccine rollout with the availability of Sinovac, AstraZeneca, Pfizer, and Sputnik V vaccines in the country. Likewise, the country is in the advanced stages of negotiations with the COVAX Facility and various other vaccine manufacturers.

COVID-19 Vaccination Prioritization Framework

The prioritization framework for COVID-19 vaccination based on the World Health Organization (WHO) Strategic Advisory Group of Experts (SAGE) on Immunization, together with the recommendations of independent bodies of experts including the Interim National Immunization Technical Advisory Group (iNITAG) and the Technical Advisory Group (TAG), was formulated due to the limited global supply of COVID-19 vaccine products. With the guidance of this principle, the Philippine National Deployment and Vaccination Plan formulated strategies and contingencies to ensure the equitable distribution of vaccine products for all Filipinos.

With the initial limited supply, frontline health workers and uniformed personnel are prioritized since they have higher risk of exposure while on duty and to allow them to continue fulfilling their duties in both the public and private sectors. Vulnerable groups such as the elderly and the indigent population, are prioritized guided by the principle of equity.

The priority population groups for COVID-19 immunization are as follows:


Group A

A1. Frontline workers in health facilities both national and local, public and private, health professionals and non-professionals like students in health and allied professions courses with clinical responsibilities, nursing aides, janitors, barangay health workers, etc.;

A1.1 COVID-19 referral hospitals
A1.2 Hospitals catering to COVID-19 cases
A1.3 Quarantine/isolation facilities
A1.4 Remaining hospitals
A1.5 Government-owned community-based primary care facilities
A1.6 Remaining healthcare facilities (thru LGU)
A1.7 Closed healthcare institutions (such as nursing homes)

A2. Senior citizens;
A3. Adults with comorbidities;
A4. Frontline personnel in essential sectors both public and private, including uniformed personnel, and those working in sectors identified by the IATF that are directly client facing and cannot dutifully meet minimum public health standards; and
A5. Poor population based on National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction (NHTS-PR)

Group B

B1. Teachers, social workers;
B2. Other government workers;
B3. Other essential workers;
B4. Socio-demographic groups at significantly higher risk other than senior citizens and poor population based on NHTS-PR;
B5. Overseas Filipino Workers; and
B6. Other remaining workforce

Group C:

Rest of the Filipino population not otherwise included in preceding groups


REGISTRATION AND MASTERLIST

All Filipinos will need to be masterlisted with their full health profile prior to vaccination. But the first phase will involve all frontline health workers in the public and private sector. The schedule of masterlisting will be consistent with the ordering of prioritization in the National Vaccine Deployment Plan.

To prepare the country for the COVID-19 vaccination program, a masterlist will: (1) provide basis for identification of target eligible groups for vaccination and identification of priority areas for registration of eligible individuals; (2) ensure uniqueness of individuals in the vaccine administration plan; and (3) provide input to operational planning especially for costing and allocation of resources.

The VIMS platform shall also enable use of information and communications technology for scheduling, notification, and vaccination reminders.



WHAT INFORMATION WILL BE COLLECTED?

Personal information, such as but not limited to full name, birthday, and PhilHealth Identification Number (PIN), shall be collected to ensure no doubling of identified potential vaccine recipients. Health data will also be collected to help your vaccination team assess your eligibility for the vaccine.

The LGU or zones will determine the scheduling for vaccination. The Vaccine Information Management System (VIMS) platform shall be used for scheduling, notifying, and reminding individuals of their scheduled vaccination.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology on Thursday raised the status of Taal Volcano to Alert Level 3 due to signs of magmatic unrest.


In an advisory, Phivolcs said the volcano recorded a phreatomagmatic eruption at 3:16 p.m.

“Taal Volcano Main Crater generated a short-lived dark phreatomagmatic plume 1 kilometer-high with no accompanying volcanic earthquake,” the bureau said.

Alert Level 3 means there is magmatic intrusion at the main crater that may further drive succeeding eruptions, according to Phivolcs.

The agency also reminded the public that the Taal Volcano island is a Permanent Danger Zone, and that entry into the vicinity as well as the “high-risk” barangays of Agoncillo and Laurel in Batangas is prohibited.

The institute has a 5-step alert level for Taal, with Alert Level 5 being the highest and indicating that hazardous eruption is in progress.

Phivolcs reminded the public that Taal Volcano Island is a permanent danger zone and entry is prohibited.

It also advised communities around Taal Lake "to take precautionary measures and be vigilant of possible lakewater disturbances related to the ongoing unrest."

  3. Once you confirmed the hotel availability, go to http://visita.baguio.gov.ph to make an account and schedule your visit. Each person needs to make an account and apply for QTP, regardless of age.
  4. Once you registered at Baguio Visita, inform your hotel and settle the advance deposit.
  5. I received our QTP few minutes after I submitted the deposit slip.
  6. Print your QTPs

BEFORE THE DATE OF YOUR TRAVEL

  1. Make sure to answer the health declaration- you will find it when you click schedule a visit at visita.baguio.gov.ph
  2. Print and fill-up the Case Investigation Form. You need this for the swab test (you can also fill out at the triage area but it’s an additional hassle, so might as well complete it before you go).
  3. Organize your QTPs, Valid IDs, and CIF in one envelope.


WHEN YOU ARRIVE IN BAGUIO

  1. You will register at KIA parking (you won’t miss it because there’s a checkpoint here).
  2. Leave your ID and follow the convoy that will bring you to the triage/testing area.
  3. Upon arrival at Camp John Hay, you will claim the valid ID you submitted in KIA.
  4. Register your QTPs.
  5. Pay the Rapid Antigen. We paid Php 350 (Php 500 if will stay at non-DOT accredited accom). Kids below 17 years old are not required to do the swab test.
  6. Go to the testing area for the nasal swab (not painful pero grabe yung tawa ko kasi nakaka-kiliti ng sobra).
  7. Proceed to the waiting area to get the result.
  8. Once negative, you are free to go already.

The total process from arrival at KIA up to getting our negative results is at 45 minutes.


Of course, the pandemic is still here but instead of fear, we chose to continue living our lives with caution (Lysol high touch areas, alcohol, wipes, masks, and shields). The best place we found that is kid friendly with many outdoor activities option is Baguio City.
