Panaderia Dimas-Alang (Circa 1919)

Panaderia Dimas-alang is the first known bakery in Pasig which was put up in the year 1919 by Ambrosio Lozada – the father of the internationally known violinist Carmencita Lozada.

The fact that it shared a pen name with national hero Dr. Jose Rizal all the more establishes its significance in the days when Pasig was starting to carve a name in entrepreneurship.

Kapasigan then, where Dimas-Alang Bakery is located, was composed of Sta. Elena, San Isidro and Wawa, the sitios by the river edge. During that time, there was nothing as enticing as the sweet scent of bread wafting all over this “baybay ng ilog”, coaxing townsfolk to pause from what they’re doing and partake of the town’s ever favorite snack: the pandesal.

In the succeeding years, Dimas-Alang would introduce baked goods inspired by foreign palates – the croissant and French breads, for example. But the Pasig folks remained loyal to the pandesal.

Other favorites that saw brisk sale were the aglipay, the bonete, biscocho de cana and the “di ko akalain”.

PANADERIA DIMAS-ALANG TODAY

The bakeshop is now owned and managed by Manolo Lozada, who inherited it in 1980 when his mother Teresa passed away. The Lozadas are an old, artistically-gifted family from Pasig, and in music circles Manolo, a painter-printmaker and singer, is better known as the only brother of the late, great violinist Carmencita Lozada.

HOW TO GET TO PANADERIA DIMAS-ALANG

The bakeshop is located along the busy road of A. Mabini which is a few meters away from C5 Road - Bagong Ilog. Just take Pasig Blvd Ext. from C5 then turn right to A. Mabini St.

If you are travelling via public commuting, there are jeepneys and UV Expresses en route to Pasig Simbahan (town proper) or Pasig Palengke. Both will pass by A. Mabini St. You can drop off in front of Dimas-Alang.

Alternately, you can also book a Grab ride straight to Panaderia Dimas-Alang.

By Public Commuting

Take any of the PUJs from Pasig (Palengke or Kapasigan), Mandaluyong (EDSA) and Quiapo that pass by Shaw Blvd.
Drop off "Kapitolyo" or Capitol Commons.
Take a walk going inside Kapitolyo's gated community.
Take a tricycle ride and tell the driver to bring you straight to the restaurant or place you are going to.

If you are bringing your own car or motorbike, you can follow Waze or Google Maps for driving directions. Come early at your picked restaurant to park your vehicle.
