Originally established as the Department of Labor & Employment, DOLE underwent several transformations over the decades. During the Elpidio Quirino Administration, it was known as the Labor Management Advisory Board. In 1978, it was renamed the Ministry of Labor and Employment before being reinstated as the Department of Labor and Employment after the People Power Revolution in 1986.

Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD): A community-based emergency employment program that provides temporary employment and income support to workers affected by natural disasters or economic disruptions.

Anti-Illegal Recruitment Campaign: DOLE conducts information campaigns and crackdowns on illegal recruitment activities to protect Filipino workers from exploitation and human trafficking.

OFW Assistance and Welfare Programs: DOLE operates Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) to provide welfare and assistance services to OFWs and their families, including financial assistance, legal aid, and reintegration programs.
