The Philippine National Railways (PNR) has heightened its implementation of precautionary measures against COVID 2019.


PNR has adopted thermal scanning since January 2020 to all passengers before they enter the stations. Any person detected with body temperature of 38 degrees and those with symptoms like cough and colds are advised not to board the train to protect greater number of individuals on board the train.

PNR management also provided masks and alcohol to front liners and train personnel and is continuously making procurement of supplies and equipment.

To mitigate the spreading of COVID-19, PNR will intensify info campaign to its personnel in Metro Manila and in Bicol region and to its passengers to help in minimizing the risk of the virus by practicing proper hygiene and social restraints.

Disinfecting protocol for the trains of the PNR has been implemented. Every loop, the trains are disinfected. For Metro South Commuter disinfecting point is at Tutuban station; For Metro North Commuter, servicing and disinfecting point is Governor Pascual station and for Bicol Commuter, servicing point is Naga station.


Disinfecting procedure are done by service providers supervised and monitored by COVID19 Task Force composed of all Division and Department Managers of PNR and PNR Medical team. The procedure are as follows:

1. Wiping of disinfecting solution on hand rails, windows, seats and other train Surfaces;
2. Mopping of the train floors with solution;
3. Spraying of disinfectant all over the train coaches;
4. Observance of proper disposal of used chemicals and rags. For other usable cleaning materials the same are being sterilized prior to use and are kept in a sealed container with sterilizing solution.

Procedure would take 15-20 minutes while trains are undergoing refueling and servicing.
