Marawi City was known and became the center of news in 2017 when a pro–Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant group called the Maute group attacked the city. The battle of Marawi—also known as the Marawi siege, the Marawi clash, and the Marawi crisis—started on May 23, 2017.
MINDANAO MARTIAL LAW
Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte declared martial law on the island of Mindanao, where the fighting was taking place, initially until December 31, 2018, but was later extended to the end of 2019.
Eventually, the city was liberated from militant control on October 17 and battle operations officially ended on October 23.

They become known because of their exclusively formulated drinks to leave a distinct mark of quality in the minds of their customers. But the most famous among their delectable products is their Swirl series: Black Mascarpone and Milk Tea Swirl.
Last week, the brand had their soft opening for their new branch in Marawi. Many people were surprised not only the Maranaos but the people outside Mindanao just like me.
On their soft opening, many people visited the cafe following the safety protocols for COVID-19. As of writing, Marawi City has almost contained the virus with six remaining COVID-19 cases in the city.

Mindanao State University (commonly referred to as MSU Main) is a public coeducational institution of higher education and research in the Islamic city of Marawi, Philippines. Founded in 1961, it is the flagship and the largest campus of the Mindanao State University System.Via Public Transportation
You can take a jeepney ride headed to the main campus.But if you are driving with your own vehicle, you can search MSU or Mindanao State University on Waze or Google Maps.
Marawi is about 2-3 hours away from Cagayan de Oro and about 6-7 hours from Davao City.
The MSU campus area has become the new hub of Marawi City after the main commercial center was completely destroyed in the seige. Today, the LGU of Marawi with the help of the national government, is continuing the rehabilitation of the the city.
I'm so glad to know that Marawi is healing and continue to re-build its city. Maranaos are still thriving despite of the bad history they have witnessed. I'm looking forward for their rise and to visit the city soon.
